Driver, Customer Service Representative, Warehouse Manager
Position description: This job is at the heart of local food distribution. The ideal applicant will have an interest in developing meaningful relationships within the communities in which the food hub works. The applicant will have a keen sense of organization and attention to detail. A love of local food and a tough resiliency is a must. You are the face of the company and will be interacting with extremely hard-working and busy people from farmers and ranchers to retailers and restaurant operators.
The truck(s) and warehouse are your domains. Experience with driving 24 foot box trucks and handling pallets and pallet jacks are important. An excellent driving record, a like of driving, and an ability to read lists and keep accurate counts of products and orders will be required. Working long 10-12 hour days are normal and maintaining a sense of humor and good work ethic are required throughout. Lifting 50 lb boxes on and off trucks all long will be required and the work can be physical at times.
Local food distribution is a team effort, yet the applicant will also be on their own all day and will need to be able to keep up the hussle and make good judgment calls.
A knowledge and understanding of diesel engines and trucks is helpful.
Hours: Seasonably dependent and variable, however Thursdays and Fridays 8am-8pm should be planned. There will be occasional runs on Mondays for schools.
Compensation: Salary depending on experience. Also, staff of the food hub will be able to purchase food through the hub at 20% off.

The ideal applicant will have an interest in developing meaningful relationships within the communities in which the food hub works. The applicant will have a keen sense of organization and attention to detail. A love of local food, sustainable agriculture, and community are a must.
As the Operations Manager, you will start as and able to perform the job of Driver, Customer Service Representative, and Warehouse Manager (see separate job description). You will need to be able to fill in this position as needed and help hire new folks for this position.
The Operations Manager will also need to be able understand, manage, and operate all aspects of the Valley Roots Food Hub. This includes communicating with customers and producers on orders, transport companies on transport details, other food hubs on hub to hub trading, commercial kitchen operation, and regulatory agencies as needed.
The applicant will have good business and communication skills, and know how go the mile for our customers when needed.
Computer skills required: basic website design/blogging/newsletters, proficient in email, Microsoft Office, and have an online acuity to be able to pick up our local food logistics software.
Background experience: driving, customer service, warehousing, sales, marketing, food sales, agriculture, restaurants, food service, commercial kitchen work, value-added food production
Hours: Seasonably dependent. Winter start at 20 hours per week on Thursdays and Fridays. This position is expected to grow into a full time position.
Compensation: DOE. Salary potential with commission. We are looking for entrepreneurs who want to grow with us. 20% discount on food purchases.
