We hope everybody is safe, happy, and healthy out there!
This has been an unprecedented year. We in the food hub world have been in double time since March. It never felt so natural to step up to the plate to serve our communities with the best possible food we could access. It felt good to be needed. We have been hitting the front lines, and sometimes empty highways, working to help farmers, ranchers, and food producers access the at-home market, the cornerstone grocers, and the few community organizations that sprung help to feed people in need.
Our Front Range Ashential William Boles was working in the rain last week and had a slip and fall off the back of the the big truck. While it could have been worse, he escaped with some broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder. A big shout out to our super-valued William, his bottomless capacity to serve the food system, and prayers for his speedy recovery.
Also, please note some of the principal bullets in the Valley Roots Food Hub COVID Policy:
All surfaces and/or handles throughout our warehouse are sanitized twice weekly
Hand washing is required at every interval, and/or at every change of activity
All employees are temperature checked at every aggregation day
Social Distancing is practiced and if not feasible to maintain 6 ft distancing, masks will be worn
all other food safety measures per our USDA HGAP+ Food Safety Plan

Missives from the open roads of the San Luis Valley
Greetings fellow locavores, foodies, farmers and otherwise earthy folk! Many of y’all may know me...those of you on the West end of the Valley more likely know my dad. Even more of you—perhaps without knowing it—have been under the care of my mom...but that’s another story. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jesse Marchildon, but...you can call me Badger. I work the little seen and not-so-glamorous trade of local food aggregation and delivery at the Valley Roots Food Hub, and have been since April of this year. It may not keep up with the Kardashians, but I gotta say, I love it. Much of my day I roam the Valley in my fickle steed, Brother Bear, gathering the bounty of our local agricultural producers to help get it to you, my fellow eaters and connoisseurs of the Valley terroir.
