Asparagus is Here!
Really excited to be kicking off the produce season with Milberger's Asparagus. This is a really awesome family farm at scale located in Pueblo:
"Shane Milberger, a Pueblo County native, began his life in commodity agriculture in 1986 at the age of 17. As a sophomore in high school and with the encouragement from his father, he leased a small plot of fertile ground from a neighbor, bought a tractor and began what would later become a successful family-centric agribusiness – tethered to the ground they work and care for by honoring farming traditions of the past and maintaining a visionary outlook toward the future.
Over the years Shane has directed the growth of the farm, not only in number of acres in cultivation, but in the diversity of commodities grown. In 2005 he began the transition process that would lead to the Colorado Department of Agriculture certifying the farm as “Organic Certified.” The organic process continues today through crop and field rotation. Each year Shane commits more resources to grow an ever-increasing number of organic commodities...."

They have done an excellent job of keeping up with all the certifications and programs that are increasingly needed, if not required, for modern farming, see below. And let me tell you something: these programs require at least one full time staff member to manage and they are intense. Dalton Milberger is the guy and he is doing a great job!
We had a great visit last week with Dalton and Shane Milberger last week.
If you are in Pueblo next, you must go their their farm store. You will be blown away!
Spinach and Radish coming up beautifully!
This is a flavorful heirloom spinach that Antonio Garcia has been organically growing year by year, collected seed by collected seed, in Alamosa for over 10 years.

In comparison to beef, bison has a lighter, coarser texture and tastes a little sweeter. This lean meat is not gamey and can easily be substituted for a recipe that calls for ground beef. Try some today!

Hey Folks! We are now collecting donations for a food drive to support the Food Bank Network of the SLV. Help us stock food pantries across the SLV with non-perishable local foods when you order from the Valley Roots Food Hub.
We are so sorry about the previous confusion on the online market. We hope the distinction is more clear between donation and personal purchase moving forward. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
