Last week the Valley Roots Food Hub had a team training and retreat in Crestone where we dug into the nitty gritty of local food system development: food safety protocals, warehouse optimizations, trucks and trucking, how do we discuss mistakes for positive feedback loops, and many more details that sometimes we just don't have the time or bandwidth to discuss. It was for the team, to keep everyone empowered in their work, and also for you, the local food stakeholder. We want to continue to nurture our relationships, as its really important we stick together to keep making this whole thing work.
Then we had a fun time firing up the wood chip gasifier to fire a raku kiln! Our own Piper Meuwissen is a ceramics artist at Adams State and we were fortunate to have her wares that we could glaze and fire right on the spot! It was amazing a proof of concept proven! 1500 degrees F no problem, all night long!
Food Service Director of Creede, Malcolm Snead, recognized with National award!
We are so proud of Malcolm Snead, Food Service Director of Creede School District, for being recognized as a 2020 Community Food Champion by the National Farm to School Network!
We always knew Malcom was going above and beyond. Not only did he know food, good food, but he knew how to please students and keep those plates coming back clean! We have a treasure among us folks!
This recognition includes a $500 honorarium in gratitude for the service Malcolm has done in feeding the children and families of the Creede community. He is only one of 25 honorees from across the country to receive this award. Thank you, Malcolm, for the work you do in connecting your students, and the greater community to our local food system!

New Producer: First Crop!
Here at First Crop™, we carefully cultivate our CBD and hemp crop year-round. We work closely with our farmers to ensure sustainable practices to nurture their land and nourish our crops. At First Crop™, we create regenerative partnerships with farmers and empower them every step of the way.
Our farmers receive the highest quality hemp seeds with superior genetics from us. We share our expertise with them and assist them with site selection, soil, and water testing, planting, sustainable growing practices, harvesting, and drying their hemp crop. Our farmers grow the best hemp because they use regenerative farming practices and only produce USDA Certified Organic hemp.
Farmers are at the heart of our business. We share our profits with them and work together to create the highest quality CBD oil on the market and promote regenerative principles to leave something of value for the next generation.
Working closely with our farmers is a commitment that lasts all year long. We take them through all four seasons, with a careful eye on quality.
